My family lives in the pacific northwest, where the fall, winter, and spring is cool and drippy for the most part. You would think that when our beautiful summer weather finally comes to stay, that I wouldn’t be able to keep my kids indoors. Not so. I find that I really need to do a little work to get them outside. When it comes to backyard play, failing to plan is planning to fail. This year, we are adding in a favorite childhood game of mine to our mix of backyard activities, the classic game of badminton. Anything that gets them out there for a few minutes is usually all it takes. They rediscover their love of being outdoors.
I also found some great links to share with those of us looking to make our own backyards, and home in general, a fun sanctuary for kids. There’s some great lists out there, enjoy! (And there are tons more, this is just a few.) And please let us know what you’re doing with your kids that’s fun and innovative.
